Sequoia-Worlds Largest Tree

We went to the Museum of Natural History in NYC this past weekend. It was really awesome to see so much under one roof. One of many things I was very impressed and taken by was the Sequoia tree they had on display. If you're not familiar with this species, they live for up to 2,200 years, includes the tallest trees on Earth, and reaches up to 379.1 ft in height and 26 ft in diameter at breast height. Crazy isn't it.

Married by Jack Sparrow

It's true. Jack Sparrow married us. And yes, it was legit. Our good friend -an artist extraordinaire-was kind enough to marry us in character. It was certainly memorable. Everyone was thrilled—many stating it was the best wedding they had ever been to. We had a lot of fun with the little pirate theme touches throughout the night, like eye patches, hats, funny pirate masks and even a treasure hunt. We made tentecals for the treasure chest prop too.

Delectable Garden

My mother, matron of honor and sister-in-law did an amazing job of putting a wedding shower together for me. They made everything. Here are a couple pictures to show you the beautiful spread they put out of desserts. And the decorations made it a delectable garden of indulgence! YUM!

Even the flowers were made by hand. My mother makes these incredible fabric flowers. She even made one for all the guest. See pictures below.

Mini cheese cake bites.

Byproduct Craft 01: Escort Cards

Being that my husband and I are both artist, there were a lot of things we wanted to do on our own for our wedding.Of course this meant more work, but it certainly saved us some money and allowed us to have a lot of fun.

This is a picture of the escort cards I made from a lot of the left over paper and ribbon I had from other projects.
It was super simple. For the name portion, I ended up printing them out on the computer. (Here they are blank so you could just hand write in the names if you wanted to).

The most efficiant way to make these is to cut everything ahead of time so you can assemble them quick.
• Cut out all the scrap paper to about 2.5 x 4.
• Have all your names cut out (business card size: 2 x 3.5)
• Use a Dove paper punch (or what ever icon you prefer) to punch varied scrap paper. It's good to have a lot of solid ones so they stand out well.
• Adhere the name portion to the scrap paper.
• Punch a hole on one end.
• Use a glue dot to adhere the Dove to the corner of the name portion
• Use some decorative scissors to trim one end of the card.
• Tie 6" ribbon pieces to each for cordinating food choices. (Green=Fish, Orange=Beef, etc.)
• I used pencil to mark out what table they sat at since this is something that might need to be figured out near the end OR even have to be changed quickly.
• Use pretty pins to tack to a cork board at the reception. I covered my quark board with colored canvas and white thumb tacks.

1 Hour Drawings by David Ferreira

My husband, David Ferreira did a series of small ink drawings for one of his gallery shows that are all done within an hour. And he doesn't do any pre-sketches. Each one is completely off the cuff AND certainly depict his depth of imagination.

I Can Still Paint

I did this painting for my folks back in 2005 or 06? It's about 30" x 40". I'm getting anxious to do another one. Being a designer working on a computer all day - you often crave a more tactile approach to creativity. Nothing does it like paint to a canvas.
